Worn Raw | Three Times Weekly, My Skin Left Behind

These gloves have scrubbed me down to my most honest self. Three times a week, I slip them on and work my body over, no mercy, no gentle touches. My faith teaches me to honour this vessel, and sometimes honouring means stripping away.
The texture is rough, deliberately so. I run them over every inch while the water pours down, watching dead skin roll off in grey ribbons, revealing the fresh pink layers beneath. My breasts, my stomach, the full curve of my hips, the backs of my thighs where I linger longest. I have to steady myself against the shower wall sometimes, the friction building heat that has nothing to do with the water temperature.
These gloves know places I don't let anyone see. The delicate crease where my thigh meets my body, the soft underside of my arms, the slope of my backside that I have to twist to reach. I press harder than necessary in those hidden spots, my breath catching, my skin flushing deep rose from the attention.
The fabric is thinning at the palms where I grip myself hardest, stained slightly from my body's natural oils, still carrying the faint scent of my soap and something earthier underneath. My dead skin is still embedded in the fibres, microscopic pieces of me trapped in the weave.
For someone who understands that intimacy isn't always soft. Sometimes the most vulnerable moments happen when we're stripping ourselves down, layer by layer, until we're raw and new. Someone who wants to hold what has held me at my most unguarded.
