Initially, they slide into your inbox with innocent questions, then slowly steer the conversation into a never-ending bombardment of daft leading questions. And before you know it, you’ve spent an hour replying, keeping the conversation going and giving away your precious time, your energy and personality… while your Paypal remains unmoved.

They’re more interested in the conversation than the purchase.

They avoid talking about setting up an order. They keep pushing and prodding for more personal info. They constantly say “just wondering...” or “just one more question...”. They simply want your time and then Poof! they disappear when it comes to doing a transfer.

Remember! Your time is part of what you sell. Your attention, effort and creativity don’t come with a free unlimited chat pass.

Be firm but polite in your responses. This could save you tons of time and your sanity!

If your wee red flags are flying high say something like...

“Happy to answer questions about purchases, but I keep chats focused on customers who are ready to order. If you’d like to buy, you know where to find me”.

Keep it simple and professional, with no guilt.

Not everyone who messages is a potential buyer you can work with. Some are just window shoppers with a internet connection, a raging boner and too much spare time.

Learn skills to protect your boundaries and don’t be afraid to say no. Oh, and remember...a busy inbox doesn’t always mean a guaranteed sale. Sometimes, it just means you’ve accidentally opened the door to the time-wasters.
