One thing I've noticed from talking to buyers across the community is how often disappointment comes up. Not because the creator was bad. Not because the content was bad. But because the experience wasn't what they hoped it would be.

The good news? Most of the time, that disappointment is completely avoidable. After speaking to many buyers, there are a few things that consistently separate the people who have great experiences from the people who end up frustrated, disappointed, or feeling like they've wasted their money.

Read The Profile

I know. It sounds obvious. But you'd be surprised how many people skip straight to messaging without reading a bio, checking listings, or looking at what a creator actually offers.

A profile can tell you a lot. What they enjoy. What they don't. What their style is. Whether they're likely to be a good fit for you. Five minutes spent reading can save you both a lot of time.

Try Their Instant Content

If a creator offers instant content, it can be one of the easiest ways to see whether you enjoy their personality, energy, writing style, voice, humour, or overall approach.

Think of it as a low-risk way to test the waters. You might discover they're exactly what you're looking for. Or you might discover they're not. Both outcomes are useful.

Stop Looking For The Perfect Listing

Some of the best experiences I've had with buyers started with a conversation, not a listing.

Listings are fantastic for showing what a creator offers, but they don't always show everything they're capable of. Sometimes a buyer has an idea that isn't listed. Sometimes I've suggested something they hadn't considered. Sometimes we've ended up creating something completely different together.

If you're genuinely interested in someone, don't assume that everything they offer is already written down somewhere. Ask.

Communicate What You Actually Want

This is probably the biggest one.

You don't need a perfectly written message. You don't need to know all the correct terminology. You don't even need to know exactly what you want. But you do need to be honest.

What caught your attention? What interested you about that creator? What kind of experience are you hoping to have?

The more information you give someone, the easier it becomes for them to create something you'll genuinely enjoy.

Ask Questions

A surprising number of buyers spend days trying to work out the answer to a question that could be solved in a single message.

If you're unsure whether someone offers something, ask. If you're unsure about pricing, ask. If you're unsure whether an idea would work, ask.

Most creators would much rather answer a quick question than have someone guessing.

Remember That Chemistry Matters

Two creators can offer exactly the same service and create completely different experiences. That's because people are different.

Sometimes the creator who looks perfect on paper simply isn't the right fit for you. And sometimes the person you almost overlooked ends up becoming your favourite.

Finding the right creator isn't just about finding someone who offers what you want. It's about finding someone whose style, personality, and approach works for you.

The Biggest Mistakes I See Buyers Make

Choosing someone based purely on photos.
Expecting creators to read their minds.
Looking for the perfect listing instead of having a conversation.
Being demanding/rude. Our time is our money. Most creators are happy to answer questions, but if you have a lot, even a small tip can show you're serious about making something work. This demonstrates respect and often makes a much bigger impression than you might think.
Hiding what they actually want because they're embarrassed to ask.
Giving up after one disappointing experience.

One Last Thing...

Don't let embarrassment stop you from having the experience you're actually looking for.

I've lost count of the number of times someone has started a message with:

"This is probably weird..."
"You're going to think I'm strange..."
"I've never told anyone this before..."

The truth is, most creators have heard far more than you probably realise. And if they haven't? That's often what makes things interesting.

You don't need years of experience. You don't need to know all the right terminology. And you definitely don't need to apologise for your interests before you've even mentioned them.

Not every creator will be the right fit for every kink, fantasy, or idea. That's completely normal. But you'll usually find that out far quicker by asking rather than by spending weeks wondering.

Some of the best conversations, customs, and experiences I've created with buyers started with a simple message and an honest conversation.

So if you've found someone whose personality, style, or energy interests you, don't let embarrassment be the thing that stops you reaching out.

The worst outcome is usually a polite "that's not something I offer."

The best outcome? You might discover exactly what you've been looking for all along.

Hornyhousehusband Thought it was going to be a “buyer bashing” blog but it’s more balanced and actually represents issues that the majority of ‘trouble transactions’ could have been avoided on 👏 good read!

Smhaller another bit of advice (and I'm guilty of this too!) is look for payment compatibility. You can have great overlapping interests but if you can't complete an order just say thanks, you're beautiful, but I can't do X. No harm no foul.

CurvyScarlett @TheReverendDonFrench I completely understand where you’re coming from, and I don’t disagree that buyers should feel listened to and treated with kindness. That should really be the standard. This blog was more about sharing some general tips that can help improve the overall experience, rather than suggesting they’ll guarantee a perfect outcome every time. Unfortunately, there will always be sellers (and buyers!) who don’t get it right. Hopefully the advice is still useful for people looking to give themselves the best chance of having a positive experience💖

TheReverendDonFrench well, from a buyer's perspective many sellers simply don't listen to their clients requests. you can be meticulously clear about a custom and by inexperience or design nine out of ten times they just make the film they wanted to make. also, i've been on and off here for five years and the recent epidemic of sellers slating buyers on the dash is really off putting. some advice might be to be kind to your customers however annoying you find them. it spreads happiness, and it's good for business.. 🙂
