Finding Confidence in the Unexpected: My Journey Through Content Creation & Self-Acceptance

For a long time, my relationship with my body has always felt like a very long and constant battle. No matter what I looked like on the outside, my mind always found something to pick apart, to find fault with and to turn what could be a beautiful memory into something plagued with "wow do I really look like that" or something worse . That’s the exhausting reality of living with Body Dysmorphia; it’s not about how you actually look, it’s about how you see yourself. And I'll own my own truth. This battle has taken 20 plus years to finally begin to feel like I'm winning.

The Turning Point

I never expected that creating content and selling worn items would play a role in changing the way I viewed what I saw in the mirror. In the beginning, it wasn’t about confidence at all. I believed I'd fail in my selling journey. But the drive of wishing to be more present in my real life and the curiosity of it all meant I had to be brave and at least give it a go. Putting myself out there felt intimidating, exposing, and honestly… a bit surreal. Those first few weeks I felt like an outsider, looking in and all the confident, beautiful sellers of all shapes and sizes.

But something unexpected happened. Instead of criticism, I was met with appreciation. Instead of judgment, I found a welcoming community thriving with support and compassion for one another. I found a safe space to be me, unapologetically, raw and real ME.

Seeing Myself Through a Different Lens

When you struggle with body image, your internal voice can be your harshest critic. Every photo, every reflection becomes something to analyse and “fix.” But through content creation, I started to see my body from an external perspective—through the eyes of others. And those eyes didn’t see flaws. They saw softness, curves, beauty and uniqueness. All of the things I had spent years overlooking.

That shift didn’t happen overnight. It was very gradual, subtle, and at times I'll be honest; uncomfortable. But over time, I started questioning my own narrative: Those stretch marks and soft stomach I so badly wanted to hide away? One buyer referred to them as beautiful waves in the ocean. The dimples of cellulite up the back of my thighs? Powerful.

What if the way I see myself isn’t the full truth? What if this feedback really is how I am?

Reclaiming Control

Selling content and worn items also gave me something I hadn’t fully experienced before.

Control over how I present myself. Control over what I share. Control over the narrative surrounding my body.

It stopped being about hiding away and started becoming about choosing. Choosing angles I loved. Choosing lighting that felt flattering. Choosing to embrace parts of myself I once avoided.

That sense of control can be incredibly empowering, especially when you’ve felt disconnected from your own body.

Confidence That Comes From Within

Over time, something deeper started to grow and that was not just confidence in how I look, but confidence in owning who I am.

I began to appreciate my body not just for how it appears, but for how it exists, how it moves, and how it can be expressed. There’s something powerful about turning something that once felt like a source of insecurity into something that feels like yours again.

It’s Not About Perfection

this journey hasn’t “fixed” everything. There are still days where old thoughts creep in. That’s the reality of healing, it’s never linear.

But now, those thoughts don’t have the same power over me.

Because I’ve seen another version of myself. One that is confident, appreciated, and worthy!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this:

Confidence doesn’t always come from changing your body. Sometimes, it comes from changing the way you see it.
