One of the most common struggles I see among sellers, especially when starting out, is guilt around pricing.
Guilt for charging “too much.”
Guilt for saying no to discounts.
Guilt for not matching the cheapest option on the platform.
Here is the truth that took me time to learn. Charging fairly is not greedy. It is necessary.
Many sellers enter this space feeling grateful just to have interest. That can quickly turn into underpricing, over-delivering, and feeling uncomfortable asking to be paid properly for time, effort, and emotional labour.
There is also a quiet pressure to compete on price. Cheaper listings often do not reflect the full reality of what goes into an order.
What are you actually charging for?
When someone purchases from you, they are not just paying for an item. They are paying for:
None of that is free. None of it should be treated as such.
Cheap prices do not always attract the right buyers.
Lowering prices often brings in buyers who:
Confident pricing tends to attract buyers who:
You are not losing sales by charging properly. You are filtering for better ones.
There is also an important difference between being accessible and being available to everyone. Trying to appeal to every buyer often leads to resentment, exhaustion, and loss of enjoyment.
Pricing is one of the clearest ways to define who your work is for. When your prices reflect intention, effort, and respect for your own limits, the entire dynamic shifts.
You begin attracting buyers who understand value rather than those looking for the cheapest option.
You are allowed to change your prices.
Pricing is not a permanent decision. As you gain experience, confidence, and regular buyers, it is normal and healthy to adjust your rates.
Raising prices does not mean you are abandoning your audience. It means recognising growth.
Saying no does not make you difficult.
You do not owe explanations for:
Clear boundaries make you professional, not rude.
A final note for sellers who are still unsure
If you are reading this and still feeling hesitant, that is okay. Confidence does not arrive all at once. It builds through experience, small decisions, and learning to trust yourself.
Every seller finds their rhythm in their own time. Your pricing, boundaries, and approach do not need to look like anyone else’s to be valid. What matters is that it feels sustainable as well as respectful to you.
The right buyers will understand your value without needing it justified. They will appreciate the care, effort, and intention you bring. They will return because of it.
Selling without guilt is not about being rigid or unkind. It is about recognising that your time, energy, and presence have worth. Allow yourself to honour that.
Once you do, the entire experience becomes lighter, healthier, and far more rewarding 🫶🏻
